At Layers Hair Salon, your satisfaction is our number one priority. Since 2000, we’ve provided the city of Henrico with a wide range of quality products and personalized services that are catered specifically to your needs. Derrick, a licensed hairstylist since 1994, opened Layers Hair Salon in 2000 with the vision to provide a happy, productive and successful environment for employees and customers alike. Customer service and satisfaction are top priorities.

He has participated in the Redken International Hair Symposium in Las Vegas and Roy Peters color seminars, among others. He has received extensive training in Schwarzkopf color. Education is very important to him and he attends numerous shows and classes every year with his staff. Derrick is a Master Stylist.

Wendy has been a stylist since 1995 and has been employed at Layers since 2000. Formerly a Sebastian advocator, Wendy is a color expert who enjoys a challenge and building relationships with her loyal clientele.

She has received training from Redken, Schwarzkopf, and Roy Peters among others. She considers her co-workers at Layers her family and says, “We love to learn from each other.”

Stacey was trained by Arch of Arch’s Backstage in an apprenticeship program and continued her career there for 9 years before moving to Layers in 2000. She continuously updates her education and loves to learn new trends and techniques. She has received extensive training in Schwarzkopf color.

She takes a special interest in each of her client’s individual needs, helping them to achieve their “best look”. She is certified in Babe Hair Extensions.

Karen has been a licensed hairstylist since 1972 and joined Layers Hair Salon in 2001. She is a Master Stylist and has received training in New York City and Las Vegas.

She was a Pro Design Educator and has worked in teaching salons for the last 29 years. She enjoys teaching and keeping up with current trends in the hair styling industry.

Ariella has been at Layers since January of 2006, and licensed since May of that year. She has participated in Redken Colorist Connection classes, as well as educational events for Unite, Schwarzkopf, Wahl and Pureology. She specializes in color and spray tans!

Our curly girl specialist is Kris. Her spunky attitude will have you laughing the entire time in her chair. Having a curly wig herself - she hates frizz. Being a keratin pro, Kris always delivers frizz-free curls and silky smooth hair everytime. 

Marty started in the beauty industry in 2000 and has been a licensed stylist for 14 years. Receiving specialized training from Aveda, Matrix, Keune and copious other providers has granted her versatile capabilities, which is reflected in her diverse clientele. Combining classic cutting and personalized precision, she constructs graceful designs that offer easy replication and longevity. Color techniques using expert formulation and placement create wearable shades while making a statement.

Heather is fun, outgoing and energetic. In her chair, she will make you feel like you've been friends forever. She has been licensed since 2005 and specializes in blondes, balayage and Brazilian Blowout. Heather is always keeping up with the latest trends and loves continuing her education. When not working she likes gardening, camping and spending time with her family.

Mercedes is patient, easy-going and passionate about all things hair and beauty. She really cares about making you feel comfortable and confident in her chair. Continuing education and keeping up with the latest techniques is very important to Mercedes. She specializes in blondes, balayage, dimensional color and will finish off your look with the perfect style.

Eddie, licensed hairstylist for over 35 years, came on with Layers in January of 2018. Having a wide variety of skills, Eddie specializes in men's cuts and color. Outside of the salon - he enjoys being on the water. His ideal vacations include trips to OBX or cruising around the caribbean. 

Rhett joined our team in the summer of 2019. He has been licensed for over 20 years and is a Richmond native. Rhett's attention to detail will ensure that you are taken care of from the consultation to the finish of your appointment. His specialty is precision haircuts.

Kim, NC native, has been licensed over 30 years. She is also a licensed instructor. Taught cosmetology for 5 years. She has trained and taught with Matrix and Aveda. She also, trained and worked in Japan while living there before locating to Richmond. She is a Master Stylist. She came to Richmond in 2010. She enjoys all things to do with hair and makeup!  Loves up-dos, has worked with many pageants including Miss World/Miss USA/Miss America! Also, enjoys weddings!  She is an expert in coloring/haircuts/perms. Also, educated in Brazilian Treatments!  She is very friendly, easy-going, a true people person who will go over and beyond to help you with your needs!

Kara is newly licensed and excited to jumpstart her career in the industry. She has a passion for all things hair, from traditional looks to the latest trends. She loves to learn the how and why of different haircutting techniques and has a keen interest in the science behind hair coloring. Kara is sure to provide each client with a personalized experience based on their needs and lifestyle.

Tyler is the first face you will see at Layers. Being our salon coordinator, he always does his best at accomodating all of our guests' needs. His inviting personality and outstanding customer service go hand in hand with making sure you receive the best possible experience. When he's not behind the desk, you can catch him on his boat fishing.
